Heavy Fuel Oil
(HFO)

Used by most of the ships in service today. It is relatively inexpensive, being typically 30% cheaper than distillate fuels such as marine diesel oil or marine gas oil.

Very-Low Sulphur Fuel
(VLSFO)
|
VLSFO (also referred to as Marine Diesel Oil) is made from leftover fuel from refineries, using their residues to create a high-quality type of fuel which meets certain emissions requirements in place today.

Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel
|
ULSD is a cleaner-burning diesel fuel that contains 97% less sulfur than low-sulfur diesel (LSD). ULSD helps reduce diesel emissions more effectively. It is safe to use with older diesels.
