Hon. Danville Walker, OJ, JP on his return from New York in 1996 where he was the President of Walker & Associates, was appointed Director of Elections and Head of the Electoral Office of Jamaica from 1997 to 2008. Walker’s first execution of the general elections was so impressive that the former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, an observer at the time commended the team for their excellent work in the reformation of the election process which made for the first professionally run general elections in years. Soon after, Walker and his team were recommended to assist the Government of Antigua & Barbuda and Guyana with the logistics for their general elections.
In 2004, whilst still serving as Director of Elections and Head of the Electoral Office of Jamaica, Walker was appointed as Head of the Office of National Reconstruction to oversee the reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan that wreaked havoc on our island.
During his tenure at the Electoral Office of Jamaica, Danville Walker was conferred with the Order of Jamaica, one of Jamaica’s highest honour, for his outstanding work in the reformation of the election process in Jamaica.
In 2008, he was appointed Commissioner of Customs which was transformed into an Executive Agency under his watch. He resigned from the position in 2011 and ran as the Jamaica Labour Party candidate in the central Manchester constituency where he was unsuccessful in his bid.
In February 2012, he resigned from the Jamaica Labour Party and assumed the position of Managing Director of Jamaica Observer. Soon after he was appointed by the then Chairman, Hon. Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart as Group Managing Director of all the companies in the ATL Industrial Group, including Appliance Traders Limited, ATL Automotive Limited and FYAH 105 until 2018.
In 2019, he resigned from the position of Managing Director, Jamaica Observer and was appointed in June of the same year to the position of National Project Director for Social Housing in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation until his departure in June 2021, when he joined West Indies Petroleum Limited in the capacity of Snr. Vice President on July 1, 2021.
Mr. Walker serves as Chairman of the Trade Board and Board Member of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).
